Sounds like a bad B-movie, the coming of clones. There's something that feels inherently wrong about consuming cloned animals. The future of food doesn't sound so comforting. It doesn't matter how the majority of consumers feel about consuming cloned foods, the FDA has decided to approve cloned foods in our food supply. So it's supposedly "safe to eat", the product is "virtually indistinguishable" from the uncloned versions, and it makes good business, the later is the key to the drive for cloned foods. Say you have a cow that produces a lot of milk or tastes great, you could reproduce a bunch of these by cloning these prized animals. This does not come without risks to the animals themselves. Cloned animals have a higher risk of birth defects, as a fetus, can be unusually large-which could harm the surrogate mother, and have a shorter lifespan. These differences are enough to consider next time you bite into that steak or drink your next glass of milk. Currently, there is no labeling requirement for cloned foods so you will not know. What you don't know, can't hurt you?!
