What’s hot!? Mindful eating is the current style for eating. This is the opposite of shoveling in food just to get it over with so you can move on to the next activity. This is intentional eating; eating with purpose and awareness. That is, really tasting and enjoying your food, this involves chewing well and taking your time. You’ll digest your food better and eat less, the more time you take to eat, the more in touch you will be with your body; experiencing the feelings of fullness and satisfaction. This works best the “slow food”, the opposite of “fast food.” Slow food is food that has roots in tradition and careful preparation, prevalent in holiday foods.
Be more mindful of your eating style and choose foods that will provide the most nutrition by having a variety of foods. Ask yourself if they are from a food group such as a fruit, vegetable, grain or protein. Have small tastes from different desserts only after you’ve eaten from the various food groups. Use your mindful eating strategies by using taste, variety and time.
